The Ruby Lee Smith STEM Scholarship was created in 2018 by Deaconess Lisa Sims in memory of her mother. The late Ruby Lee Smith, and her husband, George R. Smith, Sr., successfully put two children that were technology majors through college without any student loan debt. She believed that education is one of the keys to advancement and a more successful life. Currently, women are underrepresented in the STEM majors of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The goal of this annual $1,000 scholarship is to encourage and support more women majoring in STEM as they complete their degrees.
